Yesterday i met my college friends. I had planned to meet Kanthimathinathan, Hari and Senthil at the Anna Nagar Tower Park. And later Srini and Surendar at their place. I reached the Tower Park first at around 5.30pm. And then Kanthi came in there soon. We then went to the Ticket Counter to get the tickets to go up the Tower. Being the Holiday season, there was a Huge!!! Croud. Then Hari joined us while we were trying to get into the crowd and get tickets. We three went up the Tower. Soon the time passed and a security person came and sent everyone down. We came down and started talking and walking around the park. We were going around the lake when someone suddenly pounced upon me! I was kinda Blank! I found that it was Vinoth Kumar, Raja, Srinivas and Surendar. That was quite a surprise. I didnt expect that i would find them all there. And we continued walking and chatting. Discussing abt what all of us and the rest of our class guys were doing.  Then after some time at around 7pm Senthil joined us.

This was quite a surprise reunion. Better than the planned reunions which always proves to be quite a dud most of the times. We froze the moment on Camera. Then all of us had a Soup that we usually have at the Tower Park during our walks. Then Srini, Surendar and Raja, Vinoth took leave. Myself, Kanthi, Hari and Senthil went to the Hills Green restaurant near Anna Nagar Roundtana for dinner before going home.

It was a Delight meeting all my friends today. Everyone’s moving in different directions. It may be many days or months before i meet some of the Guys again. I guess reality and that whole “growing up” thing we’re supposed to do has finally hit me. Har Gadi Badal Rahi hai Roop Zindagi!

The Genre of Comedy-Thriller is something new to Kollywood. Venkat Prabhu has ventured into this untested realm and proved himself. Fun, frolic and m ay hem were in abundance in Venkat Prabhu’s first directorial venture ‘Chennai 600028?. With his second film ‘Saroja’ the director dutifully follows the same pattern despite having the backdrop of a thriller featuring a kidnap, gun totting desperados and characters with malicious intent. Saroja is a edge-seated thriller with lots of fun. Stupendous screenplay of a simple script with equal show of emotions, thriller and comedy does make it unique.
Ajay Raj (RJ Shiva) a TV artist, Ganesh (Premji) a fun guy, and two brothers Jagapathi Babu (S.P.B Charan) and Ram Babu (Vaibhav) are close friends residing in Chennai, who kill their time catching up together. Bags packed and booze in tow, the guys hit the road – they have tickets to a cricket match taking place in Hyderabad. Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, Saroja (Vega), a class Twelve student is kidnapped. Vishwanath (Prakashraj), her father, is trying to get her back from the kidnapper (Sampath), who has demanded a ransom of Rs. 20 crores. Helping him is his best friend, Asst Commisioner of Police Ravichandran (Jeyaram).

The guys are enjoying the road trip but fate plays spoilsport; midway to Hyderabad, they are caught in a traffic hold up. It will be hours before the traffic will clear, and the boys decide they may as well get back to Chennai, so they’ll at least have a chance to catch the match on TV. But Ajay has a brilliant idea. He takes a detour – a small, rugged path that barely qualifies as a road, calling it a ‘shortcut to Hyderabad’. By nightfall, the guys are lost and find themselves in the midst of an abandoned industrial estate. Over there, they find something mysterious happening there and it more horrific for them when a police officer is murdered by group of unknown people murdered. However, they escape from the place without any troubles and while they are yet to catch a goods train that is running by the place, Jagathpathy Babu realizes that he has dropped his purse over there that carries his identity card and all his details. With no option left, all of them return to the same place and find that a girl has been tied there and it is none other than Saroja. Well, they get her freed and run together outside fighting against the baddies. But things aren’t so simple as they expected. Again starts a roller coaster ride of thriller with unexpected twists and turns.

The Movie was completely enjoyable with lots of funny scenes. I wonder why in Tamil Cinema, even actors who are a few films old, do not want to act in a multi-starrer film. Its so fun watching a bunch of guys, instead of one single ilayathalapathi or ultimate star. I was kinda bored watching these stars repeating their commercial formula. And after Chennai 600028 and SAROJA am expecting a string of Multi-Starrers in Kollywood!

The Song at RJ Shiva’s engagement Party reminded us of Om Shanti Om, but it would have been great if it were popular Kollywood Actors instead of the TV Serial Actors. And almost all the actors in Chennai 600028 appeared in guest roles. The Actor Jai who appeared in the Traffic hold up, speaking in English and then Local Tamil was very funny and best among the guest roles. The Fight scenes were realistic and believable. The TV Serial mockery in which RJ Shiva gets introduced was funny. Premji’s amusing face, the foolish air he sports and the timing and chicness of his dialogues made all the scenes in which he appears, funny and entertaining. I almost fell off my seat when he said I was cornered, I was helpless!

Certainly there were pace dropping moments, shots that lacked editing slickness. And i couldnt understand why the friends called each other sir/saar! That was Odd! But I guess I can’t complain after having sat on the edge of my seat and having fallen off (almost literally) every time these men next door delivered punch dialogues!!!

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s Music Score was Cool. Though the songs were unnecessary, they were good. The Lyrics of the song ‘Nimirnthu Nil’ was rejuvenating. ‘Cheeky Cheeky’ and ‘Dosth Bada Dosth’The Background Score was superb i would say. I loved the BGM when the baddies drive in with the black jeep.

SAROJA was like watching a Hollywood Movie with local Flavor. You would surely Enjoy the Movie! Especially, with all the laughs and thrills and the Timing Comedy! A thumbs Up for the Movie SAROJA… And Venkat Prabhu, am expecting ur next Movie!

Yea… I went to the Movie SAROJA Yesterday… I had actually decided to go to the Movie WALL-E along with Naveen. But, Naveen cancelled the plan coz he had some other work. And as soon as i got this information from Naveen, I got a Call from Kanthi calling me for the Movie SAROJA. His Colleagues had 5 tickets with them and 3 of the guys in their gang backed out, so he asked me whether we(Kanthi, Me and Hari) could go the Movie?

I agreed… coz i heard the Movie was kinda interesting and funny and its been a long time since i met Kanthi and Hari. We went to the 3.15pm show. I didnt go to Office(which i decided the day before itself, enna aanaalum Office porathu illenu!) I gave a story to Sripadharajan and asked him to exaggerate a bit and tell that to our TL Deepak. He’s really good at that and moreover he has a good name and anyone will believe whatever he says! (Nalla paiyan maathiriye effect kuduthu vachuirukan!)

And then i went to Sathyam Cinemas, where Kanthi and Hari were waiting for me. We had a Gala Time. Its really very funny to watch any Movie with ma college friends… It doesnt matter whether its really a damn boring Movie or Good One… Mainly due to the funny comments and actions that we together make at a time when everyone in the Cinema Hall is Silent! :D The had a lot of Timing Comedy. A Good Movie, after a long time in Tamil. I’d surely recommend U Guys to watch the Movie!

And after show, i booked two tickets for the Movie Wall-E, today’s show for Myself and Naveen… And this was the first time i used my card to buy movie tickets!

Then, i took the bike from the parking lot and came out of the theatre and was standing infront of Sathyam Cinemas and talking to my friends, when a Traffic Police came and asked me to move. We moved a little and then we were deeply involved in a conversation when that Policeman came back and took the bike key. Though i got back the bike without paying any money this time, he wasted my precious precious time! I’ll tell abt this incident in a different post. Intha Mamas pathi neriya sollanum! ;)

I’m going to watch Wall-E today. Have to leave home after finishing this post! I had been eager to watch this movie for the past few weeks… But, either Me or Naveen kept on postponing the plan for some reason or the other. Finally we’re going to watch it today… Will write a Review of both SAROJA and WALL-E soon. Keep checking this blog for the Review! PS: Spoilers will be there, coz i cant resist giving that away! :D

I am often asked this question, so I thought I would answer the question here.

When someone asks me whether i would like to have a drink, My short answer is that “I don’t feel like I need it.” That’s good enough for some!

But it’s not as haphazard as that simple explanation makes it sound. I have given it a lot of thought. I kinda see it as something I’d need a reason to start doing, rather than something I need a reason not to do. I sometimes ask people why they do drink. The usual responses are “to fit in,” “to be social,” and “to let loose.” I think I do all right covering all three of these on my own.

There are a couple of reasons I’ve come up with through my own observations, that people either aren’t aware of or can’t say aloud. I sometimes see people using alcohol as an excuse to act a little dumber. I don’t mean that in a bad way. Consider the man who can’t get on the dance floor until he’s had a few drinks, or the boy who can’t go up and talk to a girl without a little liquid courage. I am not those people. I’ll dance when I want to dance, and I’ll talk to the women I’m going to talk to without needing any form of crutch.

So fine, it’s not a necessity for me. But it’s fun, right? Why not give it a try?

So, i went on to give it a try during one of the tours with ma college buddies. Well, i dont know whether you can consider that as getting drunk. Because, we drank only Apple Cider, its just a beverage(like wine) made from juice pressed from apples and its alcoholic content is the least among all. Only 7%!

That was in Manali. Myself, Kanthimathinathan and Hariharan were determined to taste wine/beer or something during this tour! We wanted to know the Mystery behind getting drunk! We had purchased 2 bottles of Apple Cider from the Factory Outlet of a Apple Winery on our way to Manali! Before buying we checked out the alcoholic contect of all types of alcoholic beverages they had in stock. Beer, wine, heavy liquor or any other spirit. Apple Cider had the least, so we went on to buy it. We reached Manali, and went shopping. After returning to our rooms, we prepared ourselves to get drunk. It was all so funny. Hari had bought himself a small bottle of 8PM(it has a higher alcoholic content) and Kanthi and Myself had one bottle of cider each. We started drinking. Yuck! It’s taste was so awful. I was wondering, if this cider(with its least alcoholic content) itself was so horrible, how would the other alcoholic beverages taste! And after finishing off the bottle, I was expecting that something would happen! It didnt make me dumber or do weird things as i was expecting! lolz! I was as normal as before! So, we started to prepare our beds for sleeping. Within sometime, Kanthi started vomitting all over the room. And so, Myself and Hari, went to sleep in the next room with our other friends, while Kanthi c***** u* t** m***(words removed upon the request of my dear friend Kanthi, who doesnt want to get insulted further!!! He called me up after seeing this post and asked me to remove his name and put in Mr.X! On further negotiations, we agreed to remove these words instead of the name!) and slept in our room. We still have all those photos and videos. It was all very funny and hilarious. From then on he got the nickname WINE KANTHI!

Eventhough i drank that day, I never really enjoyed the taste. I’d have to hold my nose to drink that, much to the amusement of my friends.

And now finally i’ve made a decision! I don wanna drink. Unless, someone does something to improve the taste!

I listed down some reasons that i could think of for making this decision. They are:

1.Because it Tastes bad.

I can’t stand the smell and taste of alcohol, and don’t understand what is appealing about chugging down huge quantities of what is essentially poison, into my body. And if ever, I want a drink in my hand, nothing beats a Pepsi.

2. I enjoy being in control.

And being sober around drunk people, I see what stupid decisions and mistakes that drunk people make all the time. In fact, that’s the best thing about being sober - you get to laugh at everyone else, and still be able to remember it the next morning.

3.Because I like to drive.

I can take my own car anywhere, leave whenever I want to, and not have to shell out money for a taxi or bum a ride off somebody else.

4.Because I don’t need to be drunk to have fun.

I’m glad I have at least experienced a lot of stuff so far in my life that I don’t feel like I have missed out on anything so far.

Well, this is my Personal Decision. I’d not militantly say everyone should give it up, or that anyone should aspire to follow my lead. I just wish more people could acknowledge that it’s a reasonable conclusion to have reached for myself, and let me have it.

I don’t think that’s too much to ask.
