Sutherland Interview Day!

Monday, June 30th, 2008 | Author: Vivek

It was 18th of June 2008… I woke up as usual in the Morning and Got Ready etc… I took jus that offer letter they mailed to ma home and a Resume… I was asked to be there at 10am! The Office is diagonally opposite the Santhome Church… I went there at 11am… When i reached back home, it was around 7pm! Now, lets see what i did there all day!

I went in and gave ma Profile to the Receptionist… She got ma Profile, after seeing me pick it out frm the Sutherland Envelope along with the Offer Letter, she asked me whether i had a campus offer… I said yes… She wrote it down and asked me to wait outside… Seems that those who had a campus offer letter need to attend one interview less… Big Deal…! I thought that they would directly take me in!!!
I was the waiting waiting waiting! After some more waiting i was called and asked to wait in the lobby! God, again waiting eh! Hmmm… Then, i was called into a cabin and a middle aged HR interviewed me… All those basic questions… Temme about yourself… And picking frm what i say… Ithuku paer thaan pottu vaanguratha!!! Namma enna solromo athu la irunthe namaku thirumba questions ketu kudaivaanga! Then, she gave me a paragraph and asked me to read it… It was some story aboput a cunning fox… I read it.. She then asked me to summarize it… Enna da ithu, ithuku enna summarizing ellam… Hmmm… I said, the moral of the story is “Beware of Cunning Foxes!” Is that Okay?! I dont know… I came out and i was given a personal data sheet to fill up, i was selected in that personal interview… Then, they asked me to take a break and come back again…

After finishing ma lunch there, i went in and gave an online test… Analytical and Listening… I scored a 90 in listening and 70 in Analytical… Pass Mark was some 50 and 60 respectively… I cleared that round and then was asked to go down and meet another HR, Emmy Wilson…
Again i waited waited waited…
After some more waiting, she came and took three of us to another board room or something, me and some 2 other guys, 1 of whom happened to become ma frnd at Sutherland and the other was rejected due to loads of backlogs…
It was supposed to be a final interview, she told… She asked us to speak for 2 minutes about something… She asked me abt ma College… The Other Guy talked about Racing at ECR in which his frnd lost his hand! And the third Guy, Nishant talked about paragliding at Air Force Quarters… This is the reason he was nicknamed Military at Sutherland…
And after that, she told that Nishant and Me had been selected and were put in DELL Process… Here, we have a 15 Day Training and other details…

We then met one Stephen who was the head of the HRs… Again after waiting we met him and he signed the final selection papers… We were then given our Training ID Cards… We joined the Training frm Day 2, the next Day(19th June 2008)…

Thus after getting our ID Cards, i introduced ma self to this Guy Nishant who was supposed to attend the training along with me and we exchanged Numbers… Then, we got the seal in the ID frm the Security… He was frm Tambaram and had to catch a bus/train… So, i said i’ll drop him at Guindy coz it was near ma Place… And so we went together till Guindy frm where he took a train to his place…

And it was nearly 7pm when i went back home that day!
This is all that happened, in short!I believed this was the last elemination round and hereafter we are permanent employees! But i was wrong!!!

Fortune Favors the Brave

You must have always wondered, why there are some people who always end up on top. Even I used to wonder why? A friend told me that there are some that are just plain lucky. That’s just a humbug. No one can be plain lucky, luck happens when someone tries something and ends up successful in that. The people who win are people that go out and do things, win or lose. Yeah they might lose sometimes, but you don’t usually remember them for losing, you remember them for winning.

I think that’s the big difference. These people actually try to do new things. They are bold, and will take the initiative in all things. Life has taught me that you will get what you want only if you decide what you want and do all those things that will give that to you!

Don’t say that you are bored and nothing is happening in your life. Nothing is happening because you don’t make it happen. If I’ve learned anything its that life won’t just fall in your lap, you’ve gotta go and make it happen.

Now I’m working at DELL learning new things and talking to different people each day. I took the initiative, i attended the Interview and I got selected. It wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t finally get off my but and do something about it. I’d have been sitting at home after finishing college and waiting for DoJ like many others.

Guys, take a note. Get off your butts and go do it. Take the initiative, get into the middle of things, do something for once for yourself. You won’t be happy in life until you take control of your life and get out there and live it. It’s all just a state of mind.

You jus’ have to Do It! And Luck/Fortune whatever you call it, will follow! You know what…

Luck has a Peculiar Habit of Favoring those who don’t depend on It! Just go about doing things as you always do and everything will fall in place and you will achieve Success with or without Luck!

What made me join Sutherland!

After finishing ma Final (ah… at last!) Semester Exams, i heaved a sigh of relief! At last… No more Subjects to Study, Exams to write, Results to worry about! Writing Exams, ah Not a Big Deal! Combined studies a few days before the exam… Listening out to all those ma frnds have studied(this is combined study!) And the Final Semester, it was very very easy, coz the exams were during the afternoons! It was only during the Mornings that we studied… Everyone will study 1 unit a day b4 the exam… And teach that unit to others next day… Thus all 5 Units are covered… We even did revision 2-3 times!

But, Every Semester, i dread one thing… Thats checking out the Results! Anna University Results… Eppa varum ne theriyathu… Exam Mudicha annai la irunthu itho varuthu atho varuthu nu bayamuruthite irupaanga! Thidirnu oru naal expect eh pannaama irukum botha Damaal nu vituduvaanga! Jolly ah engayaavathu suthikitu irukum both, Results Announced, Announced nu inbox nirambi valiyum… Its a sign of the impending bad/good news! Konja nerathula varusaya calls ah varum! Anna University Results eppvume ippadi thaan varum!

Website open panurathuku munnadi enaku therincha saami paatu ellam paaduven… And i pray to God(all the Gods that i can remember of at that time!) And lo, the Results r for me to see!!! This time around i was a bit relaxed, hoping to clear… Coz, it was said that No one will fail during last semester and i had done fairly well(thanks to the morning free time)!

So, after exams i roamed around with ma frnds… We went to a Bosch Interview… Thats a different Story, I’ll tell U about it later… And frm Coimbatore i had to leave to ma Native Place to attend a few weddings… But as you all know… Holidays are Enticing only for the First Week or so! After that, it is No Longer such a Novelty to Rise Late and have Little to Do…!

After getting back to Chennai, we shifted our place… It was here that i felt very bored… Sanjay and Naveen were gonna attend an interview at Allsec the next day… So, i thought… Enna da, ellarum velaiku poranga, naan mattum inga veetla vetti ah kuppa kottikitu iruken!!! Infosys la vera kanduka maatengraanga! I got placed in Infosys on March 2007, and they havent called me yet! It looked like they’ll call me after 1-2 months, maybe in August. So, instead of sitting at home and do nothing, i could work in a call centre and improve ma comm! Also, i cud make do with some money! While i was thinking that, i got a call frm Sutherland(i had attended one job fair, jus out of curiosity during my final year, there i got shortlisted in Sutherland… Frm then on they have been bugging me to come to Santhome… I had been saying some silly reasons for not able to come there… Like i have arrear exams, i am going on a world tour, i am sick!) This time around, since i had made up ma mind to join some call centre, i agreed to meet that HR the next day(18th June 2008)!

Acer TravelMate

Thursday, June 12th, 2008 | Author: Vivek

Hey Guys… I am right now posting from my Brother’s New Laptop, the Acer TravelMate 5720…

We bought this from the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited ELCOT. After a long wait (It has been 2 months since we placed the order), it was delivered only yesterday… I was so bugged with the delay and waiting, that i actually thought of writing negative post about ELCOT. But, after receiving the Package and using the Laptop, i feel that they are not that bad either. Apart from the delay in delivery, everything else is fine.

It is Packed with a Solid Specification… Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.2Ghz, 800Mhz FSB, 320GB HDD, 2GB RAM, 15.4″ WXGA-TFT Screen, 4 USB Ports, Firewire, Wi-Fi, Built-In 1.3MP Camera, 6 Cell Li-ion Battery, Suse Linux Enterprise Edition 10.1, 3 year international warranty, Laptop Backpack, etc… For more details about the Laptops from ELCOT, click here.

The Acer TravelMate 5720 has a slight curve to it, presumably to aid the TravelMate’s ergonomics, and i find this and the smaller-than-average keys will take a little getting used to…

There are seven dedicated buttons to launch frequently used items. As well as the usual web browser, Outlook email and so on, there’s a button to set up a password. You can easily tell the status of the Acer TravelMate 5720’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings as there are separate switches on the front of the notebook to turn these off and on. The crisp 15.4in screen is cool, displaying deep and vivid colours…

We have not installed a Windows Vista yet… It came with a Linux OS… Since this is the first time i am working in an open source platform, i’m finding it kinda difficult… Well, i believe i will get a hang of it soon…

I am impressed with the Design and Sturdy Build of the TravelMate. A superb package for the price, with plenty of power…

Too Lazy To Shave!

Friday, June 06th, 2008 | Author: Vivek

To you guys out there, I’m trying to remember just why it was that, when we were young, we thought it would be so cool to grow facial hair.

From an evolutionary point of view, there are lots of different theories about why men have facial hair and why women, for the most part, don’t.
I actually tried to find this out, but there were so many theories out there, it seems the scientific world really doesn’t know for sure.
There’s the theory that men went out into the cold the most to do their hunting, so they needed beards for warmth.
There’s a theory that it’s just a simple fact of hormones.
There’s the belief that mens’ facial hair is just another evolutionary development to attract females as a sign of masculinity. And there are more.
Whatever, to me it doesn’t make much sense.

Basically, upon reflection, I remember getting man-hairier when i was in my 12th std…which seemed cool to me, then. I was around 17yrs old! I was told that, it will grow thicker and in a more proper way, only if you start shaving. So, i wanted to shave.

A few of my friends, had started shaving regularly. For some reason, this insulted me, coz it made me feel like a small boy. “I’ll show them!” I thought. “I’ll have crazy thick hair on my face!
And, unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened. Crazy Hair!

The first time i shaved was as soon as i finished my 12th std. I went shopping and bought the Razor, Shaving Cream, Brush, After-Shave Lotion, etc etc! The next day morning i woke up early, all charged up to do my first shave!
I Grabbed the razor, popped in a fresh blade, and made everything ready with what is quite possibly the perfect shave setup. After rinsing my face, lathered up thickly and shaved whatever small mustache and beard that was there! And then there was the aftershave.
I was only shaving fuzz, but it was cool.

After that i started shaving once in 2-3 months, then every month and now it has become every week!

I have suffered many cuts and scrapes and various other outrageous misfortunes whilst trying to maintain a clean-shaven look and feel!

Once during my second year, frm the study hols till the next semester beginning, i didnt shave. I was too lazy and so let it grow. Having a beard was kind of cool! I think it made me look tough! I really hate shaving and it was fun not to for a while. In the end I gave up. I just couldnt find the right balance or scruffiness and sophistication!

Besides that, professionally, I can’t go around looking unshaven and unkempt. I either have to be clean-shaven or have a beard…I can’t BE in between, unless I’ve decided I’m growing a beard.

The task went from a “do it when you want to feel like a grownup” thing to a “do it every day if you don’t want to look like Grizzly Adams” thing.

Now, I’ve certainly reached a point where shaving has become a chore. And i don’t know why, i almost always feel like a skinless chicken (uricha koli) as soon as i finish shaving.

I hate Shaving! :(

I wish, i knew magic, so that i could control the amount of hair on my face. I could make it grow to exactly the size and shape i want it to be! But, unfortunately, in reality, i cant make do without shaving.

So, shaving is a necessary evil in my life!!!

Hey… Catch U ppl later… I gotta go shave now…!!!
